Autobuses de Oriente "ADO"
Autobuses de Oriente, S.A. De C.V., is a company dedicated to the transport of passengers in Mexico. It is the flagship of the ADO Group. It has 6,000 buses that move 150 million passengers annually.
Playa Del Carmen has two bus stations. One station on 5th Avenue with Juarez Avenue and the other one is on 20th Avenue with 12th Street. Buses coming from Cancun, Cancun Airport and places along the coast, such as Tulum, arrive at the 5th Avenue Station, at the corner of Juárez Avenue. The other Station on 20th Avenue services buses coming from destinations in the interior of the peninsula or out of state in general. Both stations have service GOING TO the Cancun Airport. ADO bus line is what most everyone uses.
The bus ride with ADO is comfortable and air conditioned. ADO offers several different levels of service, some with a little more comfort. Longer route buses will have a bathroom on board. Buying tickets is quite simple. They can ask for your name or a name to be printed on multiple tickets. They can also show you the screen so you can select your seats. Luggage is labeled and placed under the bus. For unusually large items it is assumed that there is a small charge. For some routes do not label luggage.
Tip: ADO stations in Playa will take USD as payment generally at a good exchange rate.
Tip: If you are a resident, check for discounts on your ticket. For example, Playa Del Carmen to Cancun for residents of Qroo will have discount on their ticket Only shows Identification.
5th Avenue ADO bus station in Playa Del Carmen
The first bus station is located on 5th Avenue and Juarez Avenue, near the Cozumel Ferry Pier. All buses from the airport ARRIVE to 5th Avenue bus station. Do not make a second stop at the other bus station, so you can get off there. If you go to the airport, your ticket will allow you to go to this station or the other bus station as the bus starts at Fifth Avenue station and makes a second stop at the other terminal before going to the airport. Just make sure you know the correct time for the season in which you bought your ticket or where you are getting it.
The Fifth Avenue terminal offers many of the same services as the other terminal. This station offers luggage storage, currency exchange, toilets, ATMs (although we recommend using a bank ATM because they are safer and less likely to be handled.) There are two ticket counters, one regular and one that sells Only tickets to Cancun.
ADO 20th Avenue Bus Station in Playa Del Carmen
The 20th Avenue station is located between 12th and 12th St. St. This station has some of the basic tourist services like the other station. If you go to the airport, buses will stop here before continuing to the airport
Second-class buses in Playa Del Carmen
There is a second class bus service called Mayab. These bus tickets are cheaper, but these buses often stop and are generally used for people commuting instead of going as a tourist to a destination. You will probably only use them if you go to a smaller destination where ADO does not provide service.
