El Fogon is definitely the best authentic Mexican food in Playa del Carmen. The specialty of the restaurant is Pastor. Shepherd (slow roast pork) is not legally available in restaurants in the United States because it is not cooked at a high enough temperature. However, in Mexico, this is not a problem. At El Fogon, you can get a sheepshead for the equivalent of $ 50 cents. Everything on the menu is delicious and reasonably priced. With $ 30 dollars four people can be completely full.

They also have a great selection of Mexican beers and sodas. There are few restaurants where you can get amazing food for good value and price. If the locals say it is worth to visit El Fogon, it is worth trying the food.
