It is an ideal cenote for diving. If you have only been diving in the open sea at Cenote Chac Mool you will feel a very special adrenaline. It is not very deep but below there is an incredible world full of stalactites.
It is a very famous place, just 20 minutes from Playa del Carmen, just after the Puerto Aventuras bridge. Chac Mool is certainly a place you have to meet. The same site offers two Cenotes: "Kukulkan" (see cavern-kukulkan) and Chac Mool.
Chac Mool has two entrances, one main, which is a large opening in the downstream section of the site, and another small entrance called "Little Brother" - which is actually a side entrance. The cave is impressive because of the variety of scenarios that will be presented during the dive, such as the two huge caverns where you can enjoy the sunlight and the beautiful view of the jungle from under the water.
Then, in the other section, you will enter a large dome-shaped room composed of fine stalactites. In the lower part of this same room, a huge decorated collapse of approximately 9 meters / 30 feet.
In the same room, we can emerge in a large "pocket" with access to the air. The roof of this "air dome" is an open book of the last hundred thousand years for the beautiful fossils that we can find, as well as some baby stalactites and giant tree roots cracking the upper limestone to get some water .
The maximum depth is 13 meters / 40 feet will take you through salt water ... pretty hallocline guaranteed.
